Port 62078: iPhone sync
Port 62078 is open on iPhones and iPads so a paired Mac or PC can sync with them over Wi-Fi.
What runs on port 62078
iOS runs lockdownd, the service that handles pairing and sync, and exposes it on TCP 62078 on the local network. Finder, iTunes and the Apple Devices app on Windows use it for Wi-Fi sync, and developer tools use the same channel. Only computers holding a pairing record, created when you tapped Trust on the device, can do anything useful with it.
On a home network
Every iPhone and iPad on your Wi-Fi will usually show 62078 open. Seeing it in a scan is a good way to spot iOS devices and is not a sign of a problem.
If port 62078 is reachable from the internet
An iPhone is almost never reachable from the internet directly, because it sits behind your router or the carrier's network. The realistic risk is local: a computer you once trusted keeps its pairing record, so reset trusted computers if you have paired with ones you no longer control.
How to check whether it is open on your network
