Wistron NeWeb (WNC) device on my network
Wistron NeWeb, now known as WNC, is a Taiwanese maker of wireless communication products and modules.
What Wistron NeWeb (WNC) makes
WNC designs and builds Wi-Fi and cellular modules, antennas, satellite and broadband equipment, and automotive connectivity for other brands. Its hardware ends up inside routers, set-top boxes, laptops and smart-home devices sold under other names.
What the device on your network probably is
Most likely a router, mesh unit, set-top box or smart-home device whose wireless board WNC built. It can also be a laptop Wi-Fi card.
How to work out which device it is
Compare the MAC with labels on your router and mesh units and with the network screens of TVs and boxes. Unplug devices one at a time to narrow it down. Think about whether it appeared when a new device was installed.
Should you be worried
Nothing to worry about in itself. WNC is the manufacturer of the radio board, not the brand you bought, so the name alone does not say what the device is.
The app finds every device on the Wi-Fi you are on, at home or in a rental, and puts the vendor next to the hostname, the services it advertises and its open ports, which together usually name the product. Where it cannot tell, it says so instead of guessing. Get RECON for iPhone — one-time purchase, no account, nothing leaves the device.
