AMPAK device on my network
AMPAK Technology is a Taiwanese maker of compact Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules.
What AMPAK makes
AMPAK packages chips from Broadcom, Cypress (now Infineon) and others into small combo modules, best known as the AP6xxx series. These are common in Android TV boxes, budget tablets, single-board computers and other devices built on Rockchip, Amlogic and Allwinner processors. The brand on the box is almost never AMPAK.
What the device on your network probably is
Most likely an Android TV box or streaming stick, especially an inexpensive one. Next most likely is a budget tablet, a single-board computer, or a smart display. Less often it is a smart-home hub or other gadget.
How to work out which device it is
Check the network or About screen on any Android TV box or tablet for its Wi-Fi MAC address and compare. If you have several, power them off one at a time. RECON's LAN Scan lists the device's IP address and any services it advertises, which can help point to the right box.
Should you be worried
Normally nothing to worry about; AMPAK made the radio module inside a device you own. The name does not tell you which product it is.
The app finds every device on the Wi-Fi you are on, at home or in a rental, and puts the vendor next to the hostname, the services it advertises and its open ports, which together usually name the product. Where it cannot tell, it says so instead of guessing. Get RECON for iPhone — one-time purchase, no account, nothing leaves the device.
