Hon Hai (Foxconn) device on my network
Hon Hai Precision Industry, trading as Foxconn, is the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer.
What Hon Hai (Foxconn) makes
Foxconn assembles products and builds circuit boards and Wi-Fi cards for a very long list of brands, including computers, game consoles, phones, TVs, set-top boxes and networking gear. When its name shows up, it usually means Foxconn made the Wi-Fi board and its address block was used, while the product carries another company's brand.
What the device on your network probably is
Most likely a laptop or desktop PC with a Foxconn-made Wi-Fi card, a game console, a smart TV or a set-top box. It is less often a smart-home gadget.
How to work out which device it is
Compare the MAC address with the network settings on your consoles, TVs and computers; on Windows, ipconfig /all shows it. Otherwise turn devices off one at a time. The hostname in the router list often gives the device away.
Should you be worried
Nothing to worry about in itself. Foxconn is the factory that assembled the board, not the brand you bought, so the name alone cannot say what the device is.
The app finds every device on the Wi-Fi you are on, at home or in a rental, and puts the vendor next to the hostname, the services it advertises and its open ports, which together usually name the product. Where it cannot tell, it says so instead of guessing. Get RECON for iPhone — one-time purchase, no account, nothing leaves the device.
