Tuya is a Hangzhou-based smart-home platform company that supplies Wi-Fi modules, firmware and a cloud service to other brands.
What Tuya makes
Tuya sells ready-made Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules plus the app and cloud behind them, so a manufacturer can ship a connected product without building its own. The result is white-label smart-home gear sold under hundreds of brand names, usually controlled through the Smart Life or Tuya Smart app or a rebranded copy of it. Typical products are plugs, bulbs, switches, curtain motors, thermostats, pet feeders, doorbells and cameras.
What the device on your network probably is
Most likely a smart plug, bulb, light switch or other small gadget bought online under a brand you may not recognise as Tuya. Next most likely is an appliance such as a heater, dehumidifier, diffuser or pet feeder. It can also be a budget indoor camera or video doorbell.
How to work out which device it is
If you use the Smart Life or Tuya Smart app, open each device, go to its settings or device information page, and compare the MAC address there with the one in your router. If the app is a rebranded one, it usually has the same information screen. Otherwise unplug suspects one at a time and see which entry disappears.
Should you be worried
Normally this is a smart-home gadget you own, and the Tuya name appears because the brand on the box bought its radio module from Tuya. Tuya modules are also used in some cheap cameras, so if you did not set up anything like that, a camera check is a reasonable next step.
